• a city roars at night. waves rest on the beach, water hiding houses, buildings, the entire city at times as the moon brightens. a man lays on his bed in a cheap motel room with the half drunk glass of water glowing neon from the sign out his window.
• a plastic bottle washes ashore. then another. and another. cries of schools of fish could be heard despite the pre-existent roar. sleeping pills fall onto the carpet and some roll under the bed where the man once lay, not a man anymore. the neon burns bright, the city still roars.
• years later, another plastic bottle, another beach, another shore. another man, another half drunk glass of water, another neon sign, still burning but getting dimmer as the years pass.
• how much longer? please. not more.
• please. not anymore.
